![]() Since its full release, Facepunch have released a regular stream of updates for Rust, some of which include ride-able horses, air travel, scuba diving, and AI-controlled areas where players could trade in peace. The game went through many different ideas and iterations in Early Access, including changing the blueprints system for something closer to an XP system, though this was not received well by the community and reverted at full launch. ![]() Early reception was mixed, though reviewers and players noted that it had potential. Rust was a big commercial success from the off, easily eclipsing the revenue of Garry’s Mod within no time at all. Rust released into Early Access on Steam on 11 December, 2013 and would stay there until 2018 when it was finally fully released. Zombies were part of early plans, but were scrapped. Here’s everything we know about Rust on PS4 and Xbox One so far.ĭeveloped by the minds behind Garry’s Mod, Rust began life as an eerily similar game to DayZ when the survival genre boom was really kicking off. There are survival elements, such as a need for food and water as well as dangerous wild animals to contend with, but Rust is all about taking on other players for their fortunes, whether alone or as part of a group. Considering the amount of console players who want a slice of the action, you have to expect that the ports will only make the game even bigger than it already is.Īt its essence, Rust is a game about crafting yourself a sturdy base to protect it from other players’ raids and also collecting all of the loot to do your best Smaug impression. Rust is currently in a bit of a purple patch, having just recently had its most popular day in its history with a record amount of players, as well as featuring consistently in Steam’s top 10 most played. The game will also work on PS5 and Xbox Series X through backwards compatibility. That means that an announcement on Rust’s console release date could come pretty much any day now. ![]() In January 2021, Rust was rated for PS4 and Xbox One, given an M rating by the ESRB. Since the port’s reveal back in November 2019, those involved were very quiet about what to expect before it eventually got delayed. If you want a chance at being featured be sure to participate in the playtest!Ī few days following the conclusion of the playtest, we will be sharing a feedback form with everyone who wants to provide us feedback.Rust, the post-apocalyptic PVP survival game from Facepunch Studios, was initially due for a release on PS4 and Xbox One sometime in 2020. Monday as the servers close we will be recording a special video featuring some of the most awesome farm designs we can find, the video will then be released on the next Dev Blog in April. The playtest servers will be under PVE rules so don’t worry about other players trying to raid your base, because that will not be possible. This will help us detect any potential issues and work on fixes for them. While building a farm, be sure to use as many of the new items as possible. There will be 10 different playtest servers spread across our supported regions and the goal is for everyone who wants to participate to build the most awesome farm they can create! This can be done individually or in a group. With the imminent release over on the Public Test Branch we want to test all of these new features and make sure they are performing as intended before we consider a release over on the main branch, so from March 31st to April 3rd we will host a special Community Playtest. Similar to electricity, you will have new items that will allow you to automate all of these processes. You will also be able to grow plants inside your base as long as you can provide them with light and water. If you combine the right genetics you will be able to have a very profitable farm in no time. ![]() For example, plants can now have different genetics and this will affect how fast the plants grow and how much can you harvest out of it. Planting and growing crops was possible before but with the new items and systems added in this update the process will now be a lot more engaging. Just like Power Surge, Cultivator will vastly expand on the way the game is meant to be played by adding a faster and more reliable way of growing your crops, helping you achieve self-sustainability when it comes to food resources, or creating a new way to generate scrap in case you decide to sell the fruits of your labour over at the Bandit Camp! This will be our 6th major content update, bringing Rust Console Edition even closer to the Steam version. Let’s start the Dev Blog with some exciting news! Tomorrow, March 30th, marks the release of our next update over on the Public Test Branch.
